What is Latisse®?

Latisse® is a cosmetic medication that can be used to grow longer, fuller eyelashes! The medication found in Latisse®, called bimatoprost, was actually used originally as a glaucoma medication. Doctors realized that their glaucoma patients were growing thicker, longer eyelashes, and that’s when Latisse® was created!

How to use Latisse®

To apply Latisse®, be sure to wash your hands, as well as remove any makeup and contact lenses before hand. Contact lenses may be reinserted 15 minutes after application. Place one drop of Latisse® onto the applicator provided by your doctor. Right away, draw the applicator carefully across the base of your eyelashes. Blot any excess solution away. Throw away this applicator after one use. Repeat on the other eye with a different applicator.

How Well Does it Work?

Latisse® takes time. That’s why it’s important to use Latisse® every day to see results. Full results should be achieved within 16 weeks. If you stop using Latisse® each night, your eyelashes will eventually return to their previous appearance.

A clinical study of Latisse® including 278 participants showed that by week 16, 78% of participants experienced a significant increase in lash length, fullness and darkness.

Latisse® Side Effects

Like all cosmetic enhancements, Latisse® has some side effects. The most common side effects from Latisse® include an itching sensation and eye redness. These occurred in about 4% of patients.

Other less common side effects include skin darkening at application site. This is a result of increased melanin in the skin at the application site. This is expected to reverse in several weeks after discontinued use of Latisse®.
